4 Ways To Speed Up Your Recovery Time From Eyelid Surgery

Posted on: 30 May 2018

If you are planning on undergoing eyelid surgery soon, make sure that you understand what you can to do help speed up the eyelid recovery process. There are multiple steps that you can take to ensure that the eyelid recovery process goes as smoothly and as quickly as possible.

1. Take Some Time Off Work

Don't expect to have eyelid surgery and go right back to work. If you are having surgery on your eyelids, take at least a week off of work. That way, you will have ample time to heal before you head back to work. Giving yourself a week will also reduce the stress that you feel, which can aid in the recovery process.

2. Get Help Around Home

During that week that you take off work to recover, you are going to want to get some help around home. Arrange to have meals delivered to your home following your surgery by a delivery service or by friends. Hire someone to take care of your pets. Arrange for childcare for your children. Hire someone to clean your home. Reduce the work that you have to do around your house as much as possible. This will help you with the rest and recovery process.

3. Relax Your Eyes

Often when you are sick or healing, you may pass the time reading a book or binge-watching your favorite television series. However, all of those activities involve working out your eyes. After having eyelid surgery, you are going to want to avoid activities that strain your eyes.

For entertainment while your eyes are healing, download a few of your favorite books in audio form to list to. If you like to listen to podcasts, download your favorite podcasts or create a list of all the podcasts that you have always wanted to check out but have not. Create some relaxing music to listen too. Arrange to have friends drop by to chat with you. Rely more on your ears and less on your eyes as you go through the recovery process.

4. Protect Your Eyes

You are also going to need to protect your eyes. If you go outside at all, make sure that you are wearing dark sunglasses, and a hat for added protection from the sun just for good measure. When you go to sleep at night, be sure to put on your special sleep mask, which will protect your eyelids as they heal.

Also, make sure you keep your hands away from your eyes! Do not rub or touch the surgery site. This could transfer oils and dirt onto the surgery site. You want to keep the surgery site as clean as possible.

Finally, follow any instructions for after-care and recovery provided to you by your medical team.
