If you want a fresh face with smooth and glowing skin, then there are many different cosmetic or dermatological treatments that you can invest in. A chemical peel is one such treatment. And, unlike other types of treatments you may schedule at your salon, the peel does require you to prepare a bit. Specifically, there are quite a few things that you should be doing before the peel. Keep reading to learn what they are.
Avoid Other Skin Treatments
One of the most important things you should do before a chemical peel is to avoid anything that would stress or exfoliate the skin. Chemical peels will use acidic agents to remove the outermost layers of the skin. If the skin has already been removed, then this can cause an injury. So, you want to avoid such treatments as waxing, electrolysis, laser hair removal, or facials. You may also be asked not to use any exfoliating products or to undergo any sort of injections.
While you should not be going to any salon appointments, you should use the soap that is provided to you by your cosmetic specialist. Typically, an antibacterial soap is given to you that will help to kill some of the bacteria on your face so the microorganisms cannot cause an infection when the skin is removed.
You may have some other instructions in relation to your treatment, so make sure to discuss the specifics of the things you should avoid if you are unsure about them.
Drink Plenty Of Water
Before your chemical peel, you should pay close attention to your nutrition. Specifically, you should be eating plenty of protein to ensure that your body can rebuild healthy layers of skin. Vitamin C, E, and A are important for skin formation as well. So, make sure to eat foods that are high in these nutrients both before and after your peel.
Also, you should be drinking a lot of water before and after the procedure. Try to aim for about two to three liters of fluid a day. This will help to reduce irritation and sensitivity and it can also minimize some of the negative effects associated with the chemical peel.
When drinking your water, do so throughout the entire day. Also, drink at least one or two full glasses of water directly after the chemical peel to rehydrate your body.
